FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
So Cal Stoneworx has the expertise to answer any of your questions but here are a few that are commonly asked.
Cleaning & Maintenance:

To clean spills and messes on your countertops simply use a damp cloth or paper towel and, if necessary, any pH neutral cleaner (like Bar Keepers Friend) can be used to tackle tougher, dried-on messes. It’s best to avoid harsh cleaners and abrasive sponges on your countertops such as: bleach, nail polish remover, oven cleaner, drain cleaner, natural stone polish, and all types of scouring pads to avoid scratches and dulling the surface. It is recommended to always use cutting boards and avoid cutting and preparing food directly on the surface.

What is more expensive, granite or quartz?
As a general rule of thumb, most quartz products are around the same price as a mid-range granite. Since granite is a natural stone, the cost of a specific variety has to do with factors including the availability of the stone, the consistency of its pattern and the minerals present in the slab.

Do I need to seal my stone with anything?
Yes, natural stones such as granite or marble countertops should be sealed periodically. All slabs are sealed prior to installation. Sealing your stone will provide a barrier that will give you time to clean up a spill before it penetrates into the stone. The frequency in which you need to seal your stone surface depends on the area in which the stone is installed. On average, it should be sealed every one to three years. We can do this for you!

Can I put heat directly on the surface of my countertops?
Natural stone countertops are heat safe. Quartz is heat resistant and is always recommended to set hot skillets, pans, crock pots, griddles, electric skillets and any type of electric cooker on hot pads or trivets and not directly on the surface. This is required to prevent the slab from cracking.

Will you hook up appliances or plumbing?
Moving furniture, appliances, electrical and plumbing is not the responsibility of So Cal Stoneworx Inc.

What is your warranty?
So Cal Stoneworx Inc. gives a one (1) year warranty on all products installed. The warranty is limited to normal wear and tear and does not cover damages resulting from misuse, abuse, prolonged exposure to liquid or oil, neglect, mishandling, unauthorized modifications, structural failure or damage that is considered an Act of God. Any damages that occur after 1 year will be repaired on a service charge basis.

Can I hand pick my own slabs?
Yes, you can select your own slabs and tag them to our account if you use one of our preferred vendors. Otherwise there will be a slab pick up fee.

What does the term “book matched” mean?
Book matched slabs are consecutively cut from the same block and mirror image each other.

What if I have left over slab material?
You may pick up your remnants or use them to design an additional project but any materials remaining after 30 days of completion become property of So Cal Stoneworx Inc.

How can I pay for my project?
A 50% deposit is required for materials and fabrication to start the job. Any changes or additions will result in a price change. The balance must be paid in full at time of completion. We accept cash, check or money order. If a check is returned for any reason an additional $50.00 fee will be applied.
